Welcome to Bede class where we like to encourage and to help each other to succeed. Mornings in Bede are largely spent doing Maths and English with Tuesday being exception when this term we swim between 10 and 11.
In maths this half term we have been focussing on place value, rounding and the four operations of number. We have worked as a team to make a human number line to help us to order 6 – digit numbers and played Maths games to help us to improve our basic number skills. Later in the term we will turn our attention to fractions and decimals. In English we have written a letter, created a cartoon strip and following a hot-seating drama activity have written our own newspaper reports. We also work with our writing partners to review our targets and give each other feedback. We read daily and we also go to different groups 4 times a week to learn different spellings with children from Cuthbert.
Other subjects: in Art we have begun studying felt – how it is made, its properties and what it is used for. Later in the term we will attempt to follow traditional methods to make our own pieces of felt using wool tops. In PE we have been learning tennis skills including how to run and score games. Our history topic this term is Ancient Greece and in ICT we have been improving our coding skills. In Bede we all enjoy science which this term has focussed on living things and their habitats. We have explored why and how living things can be classified and we have made our own classification keys.
Out of the classroom, Bede class has become well-known for its participation in after-school clubs and so far this year is no exception with children involved in performing arts, netball and football. A small group of children have also completed some playground leader training.
