Welcome to Cuthbert Year 6
In Cuthbert Class, we work hard and have lots of fun at the same time! We enjoy Big Maths every Friday where we get up, dance, and always try to work together as a team.
In November, we worked with the other Year 6 class in school, Bede, to organise a fundraising day for the Charity Tearfund. Although we raised enough money to fund four toilets to be built in third world countries, we managed to have a lot of fun doing so. We held a poo/blue tombola, pinned the loo handle on the loo, sold poo/blue themed cakes and dressed our friends up as mummies. This was part of our multicultural week and one we definitely won’t forget!
At Christmas time, we spent two weeks being creative. We made lots of different decorations as well as Christmas cards, and our calendars which we created using the art of quilling. We were extremely proud of our creations.
In art, we have studied printing. We looked at the work of William Morris before creating our own design in his style. We used a 10cm x 10cm square for our design, which we coloured using pencils. This was then photocopied to create our very own wallpaper. After this, we created a print of our design and recreated the wallpaper using it. Everyone commented that our work looked very professional.
Coding in ICT has been something we have learnt about in conjunction with Barclays Bank. We took part in an on-line coding activity before a member of staff from the bank came out to school for a follow up session. We got to dress up, having lots of fun, whilst learning about coding at the same time.
As part of our DT curriculum, we designed and made beanbags. We took our time to design them, thinking about their purpose. Next, we created templates out of tracing paper, which we then cut out of different colour felts. The next stage was to sew them together to make our beanbag, which we evaluated to finish the task. Our display in class shows what a good job we did.
We were lucky enough to enjoy a visit to The Centre for Life where we took part in all kinds of different activities, some of them were linked to the moon (which is part of our science topic), went on the 4D ride and had a go at ice-skating. Everyone had an excellent, fun-filled day!
