Penshaw started this year off well. All the children were happy in their new classroom and they were eager for the year ahead!
‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ by Michelle Magorian was the novel that they were reading and enjoying. We carried out lots of work centered around this engrossing story. Lessons covered were: comparing the characters against each other, acting out in roles (using masks to help us get into character), writing a book report and a non-chronological report. We also watched the engaging film which starred John Thaw, which we all really enjoyed.
We have read our own leveled books as part of the Accelerated Reading program. On those rare, warm days we even get the chance to read alfresco!
As part of our spellings and sentence structure lessons we used a range of games which made learning fun!
We were fortunate this year, to have a coach to help us to improve our ball skills. Our coordination is definitely improving!
In science, we have explored a range of animals and their habitats. We also looked at how animals are categorised and we made up some animals to see if we could find out which category would suit them! Currently, we are investigating ‘Forces’ and we have used force-meters looking at weight and mass.
