Welcome to Penshaw – Year 5
Thanks for looking at Penshaw’s Page!
We start every morning by completing either a maths or English sheet – it really helps us to focus for the day. Each week, we practise our tricky spelling words. We start to learn them at the weekend as part of our homework and then each day, we participate in a range of activities to help them stick in our memory. At the end of the week we take a spelling test to see how well we have done – another ten out of ten!
Daily maths covers everything from addition to fractions, measurement and statistics. We also sing along to Percy Parker to help us with our times tables.
We cover lots of different genres in English. This term we have focussed on the poem The Jabberwocky. We’ve created our own poems, stories and reports from this fantastic poem.
This terms science is looking at light. We have learned that it travels in straight lines from a light source – and we showed the direction by using wool! We also discussed how shadows are formed and we made some of our own – can you tell what they are? During some of the lessons, some of the children act as mini teachers to help other children who may be struggling with a section of their work. Everyone enjoys this!
As part of our creative week, the children chose to learn how to draw. We followed a step-by-step YouTube show and created a range of drawings that we are proud of. What do you think?
We enjoyed creating our Easter eggs with our families.
Finally, we took part in a BBC online, live lesson – we were even mentioned on the television. Can you spot our name?
