Our Newly Organised Library

13th March 2023 By sharonmaughan

Hello Everyone,

We have been very excited this week as our newly organised library has had a grand opening with children in book character costumes officially opening it on World Book Day.

Some of our many ideas we use to promote a love of reading are:

· School librarians who ensure the library is kept tidy and that books are put back in the correct place

· The ‘Librettes,’ a group of younger librarians who ensure the outdoor book areas are resourced. This is where children can enjoy stories together in their free time

· Termly reading newsletters containing information about competitions and progression in reading.

· Books are available in our garden area at lunch and break times for children to read at their leisure.

· Accelerated Reader quizzes with certificates given as an incentive.

· Guest author visits

· Theatre and pantomime productions twice yearly- often traditional tales linked or classical texts.

· Class trips to library.

· Book clubs

· The Secret Book Library

· Reading areas in each classroom

· Class trips to the local bookshop where books are taken and exchanged

· Regular book recommendations for parents on the Class Dojo

· Stay and play story sessions and family learning in EYFS.

· Whole school text focus linked to classical literature.

· World Book Week.

· Assemblies around staff’s favourite books

Summer 2022

14th July 2022 By sharonmaughan

Hi Everyone,

Well, what a year, but we’ve made it! A huge well done to all our children this year who have settled back into school exceptionally well after the pandemic, and who have made tremendous progress.

Thank you to all or wonderful staff who have taught and supported all our children to ensure they can be the best they can be.

I would like to wish Mrs Perry all the very best as she makes her life-changing move to New Zealand, thank you to her for all she has done for Bullion Lane.

Mrs Cook, one of our lunchtime supervisors is retiring, thank you to her for all her hard work and commitment she has shown towards Bullion Lane, and wishing her a happy retirement.

I also wish Miss Gaddes, good luck as she starts another job in September, she has been a great asset to our school over the last year.

Mr Gardner – CONGRATULATIONS! He is getting married over the summer so wishing him and his wife a wonderful day.

I hope everyone has a lovely holiday and we’ll see you back at school on Tuesday 6th September.

Mrs Lloyd

23rd March 2022 By sharonmaughan

Hi Everyone,
I hope you have all managed to enjoy half term.
This message is to let you know officially, that Mrs Lloyd will be retiring at the end of this term.
Mrs Lloyd has been an extremely valuable part of Bullion Lane for 26 years, playing a tremendous part in all aspects of school life, and will be a huge miss.
Firstly, I would like to thank her for the dedication and commitment she has shown towards all the children that have been in her care. Mrs Lloyd has not only been an outstanding teacher but also someone who has played a key role in the lives of many who were vulnerable or needed extra support. Children are always made to feel special and cared for, ensuring they are happy and confident after speaking to her. Parents are also extremely appreciative of the hours of support she has given them.
Mrs Lloyd has not only been a positive role model and a huge support to the staff, but being a great team member, she has also brought energy, fun and laughter to the staff room. The time she has given, and her enthusiasm, enables staff to share their thoughts with her knowing that she will give help or advice if necessary.
From my point of view, it has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to work with Mrs Lloyd. She is a true professional and I couldn’t have wished for a better Deputy to work with.
She is reliable, loyal and our identical thought processes (most of the time!), and humour have ensured that we have being able to work extremely well together and made significant improvements to make this school as great as it is now.
She is not only a great work colleague but also a true friend who I will miss and who I am sorry to see go. I wish her all the very best for the future, and hope that she has a long and happy retirement.
