Welcome to Penshaw – Year 5
Lessons
Thanks for looking at Penshaw’s Page!
We start every morning by completing either a maths or English sheet – it really helps us to focus for the day. Each week, we practise our tricky spelling words. We start to learn them at the weekend as part of our homework and then each day, we participate in a range of activities to help them stick in our memory. At the end of the week we take a spelling test to see how well we have done – another ten out of ten!
Daily maths covers everything from addition to fractions, measurement and statistics. We also sing along to Percy Parker to help us with our times tables. We use a variety of equipment to help us from blocks to ipads!
We cover lots of different genres in English. This term we have focused on Tim Peake, looking at explanation texts and the poem The Jabberwocky. We’re going to create our own poems, stories and reports from this fantastic poem. But first, we’re going to do a poetry recital!
This terms science is looking at Living Things and their Habitats. We’re also carrying out an experiment about microorganisms. Each week we will be watching how mould grows on bread!
In RE, we have been looking at the names and teachings of the ten Gurus in Sikhism. We really enjoyed researching this interesting topic.
Line drawings, colour and tone were our focus in art lessons. We got very creative and enjoyed it too.
Finally, we have been singing and using the musical instruments in our class, much to the joy of everyone walking past our classroom!
