Welcome to Penshaw – Year 5
Lessons
Thank you for looking at Penshaw’s Page!
Our mornings commence with either a maths or English sheet – it really helps us to focus for the day. Each week, we practice our tricky spelling words. We start to learn a new set each weekend as part of our homework and then each day, we participate in a range of activities to help them stick in our memory. At the end of the week we take a spelling test to see how well we have done – another ten out of ten!
Daily maths covers everything from addition to fractions, measurement and statistics. We use a variety of equipment to help us, from blocks to laptops! We heavily focus on all the times tables, from two’s up to twelves. Times Tables Rock Stars is one of the online apps which really make learning our tables fun!
We cover lots of different genres in English. This term we have focused on the novel, Mister Stink by David Walliams, looking at the toolbox of words which are used in his style of writing.
Reading is, as always, a big focus. We read a variety of genres and using different tools – books, online books, audio books and either being read aloud too or reading independently. Our reading takes place in different settings!
This terms science is looking at Animals including Humans. We’re focusing on our ‘Digestive System’ and ‘Teeth’.
In RE, we will look at the themes of Christianity and rituals.
Line drawings, colour, tone and printing will be our focus in art lessons. We get very creative and enjoy it too.
Finally, we’ve been looking at musical instruments (music); Our World (geography); Coding (ICT); Swimming and Indoor Athletics (PE); French speaking (MFL) and relationships (PSHE).
All of these lessons are done in a creative, inclusive and happy classroom.
