Lessons

In Riverside we like active learning. On our first day in September we followed instructions to make Smiley biscuits. In Maths we like to lay out the 100 square with floor tiles. We know which order they go in and can even put numbers down out of sequence. We enjoyed looking at different triangles and then making symmetrical patterns. Finally, we carefully checked that they were symmetrical using a mirror on the line of symmetry.
How carefully do you wash your hands? We were asked that question by our visitor from Taylor Shaw. She then demonstrated using an ultra violet light and a cream to simulate germs. We were all amazed at how we need to wash the backs of our hands as well as the palms. We will continue to practise!
We learnt to measure in centimetres using 10cm rods. We found out that we needed to measure in a straight line and count carefully. In Science we looked at the properties of wood to see if it was a good material to use for an outside bench then we practised making a bench. We thought that it was a good material to use but it needed nails to make it secure.
